The Arkansas in the Civil War Message Board

And, too, there is the issue of semantics -- the militia being "called out" for example. The only instance I know of, regarding the prewar State militia, was the war with Mexico. During the Civil War, the only documented instance of the militia being called to active duty that I know of was when the 45th Regiment of Searcy County was activated in November and December 1861 to root out the so-called Arkansas Peace Society. I have found a document in which the State Military Board recommended that the Governor activate the 7th Regiment of Pulaski County in 1862, but no record as to whether the regiment was actually called out.
