Private Read was born 24 Dec 1838 in Tennessee, son of Sion Spencer (22 Apr 1791 VA- 27 Aug 1843 Warren Co., TN) and Hardenia Jefferson (Spencer) Read (1804 VA- 06 Sep 1889 Warren Co., TN). He appears in the 1850 Census for District 9, Warren County, Tennessee, in the household of his stepfather, Dr. Malchizadec Hill. Corin migrated to Arkansas in time for enumeration in the 1860 Census for Beavers TWP, Saline County, Arkansas, in the household of Arvilla Pelton. He enlisted 02 Aug 1861, at Pitman’s Ferry, Arkansas. He received a slight head wound at Corinth, Mississippi, on 03 Oct 1862. His parole occurred 05 May 1865 at Chester, SC. He married after the war, wife unknown (the 1910 Census reveals he was in his second marriage). He next married 12 Apr 1894 in Saline County, AR, to Ada Francis Salley (b. 07 Sep 1867 in AL), daughter of Benjamin Franklin Salley (18 Jul 1828 SC – 30 Apr 1908, Saline Co., AR) and Lucretia Winford (Crawford) Salley (19 Mar 1840 AL – 12 Apr 1836 Saline Co., AR). They became the parents of two children, Eulerah, b. 17 Mar 1895, and John S., b. 22 Aug 1897. Corin died 20 Apr 1910, burial in Bryant Cemetery, Saline County, AR. Ada died 08 May 1946, burial also in Bryant Cemetery.
