There was for years an original Parrot gun on display at Arkansas Post, in fact the plaque still says that the barrel on display there is an original. However the original parrot barrel has been replaced with a reproduction about 5 or 6 years ago and no one seems to know what happened to the original. I have been told from park officials that the park service probably rotated out the barrels and move the original to storage, but no one seems to know for sure.

In any case Parrots Guns were definently used at Arkansas Post. According to the diagram of Fort Hindman in Battles and Leaders volume III indicates at least one 3" parrot gun inside the fort itself. As I understand the O.R.'s there was only one Battery of artillery outside the Fort and that would have been Hart's Dallas Arkansas Battery with Garland's Brigade. As we know Hart's Dallas battery was reorganized at White Sulphur Springs from men of the 24th Arkansas Infantry and that men from White Sulphur Springs were sent to Fort McCulloch to get these guns. Does that mean that Hart's Battery was armed with Parrot Guns? NO. But what are the odds? But also keep in mind that Hart's Battery with Garland's Brigade were also one of the best brigades in the Trans-Mississippi at the time and were slated to be transferred to Virginia. So would they have had the best weapons? Probably.
