The Arkansas in the Civil War Message Board

In Response To: Major Elliott ()

Mark, that was James Thomas Elliott (1823-1875), a prominent Camden lawyer. Early in the Civil War he was appointed major and provost-marshal for the Second District of Arkansas, and later (December 1862) was appointed conscript enrolling officer for Division No. 4. He was active in politics after the war, serving as a circuit judge, U.S. Congressman and Arkansas State Senator. His house at Camden is still standing, and you're right, it is a beautiful structure.
