In 1860 Fed. census, J. C. Capshaw (b. TN; age 40) and wife Louisa (b. AL; age 37) reside with 7 of their children including Mary (b. AR; age 8) in Ouachita Co., AR. His mother, Mary Capshaw (b. SC; age 60) resides 2 dwellings away with sister Mediah Joiner, her husband Lewis and their children.

In 1870 Fed. census, Louisa Capshaw (b. AL; age 49) and Mary Capshaw (b. SC; age 74; Invalid) reside in Yell Co., AR - Louisa with children and Mary with Media Joyner, her husband Lewis and their children. Residing next door to Mary Capshaw and Media Joyner are John B. Huckaby (b. SC; age 31), his wife Mary F. [Capshaw] Huckaby (b. AR; age 17) and their 1 year old daughter, Martha A. (b. AR).

Pvt. J. C. Capshaw and Jesse C. Capshaw are the same person.
