OK Damon, I have a question.

On your web page you have Company "C" of Josey's 15th Arkansas, the "Yell Guards" listed as being commanded by Capt. Francis M. McNally. That is all well and good. BUT and here is my question.

You have the "Yell Guards" listed as being from Jefferson County, presumedly taking their name from Major General James Yell of Pine Bluff, and therefore presumedly a part of the 24th Arkansas Militia.

However, on Bryan Howerton's muster rolls of the "Yell Guards" are listed as being the orginal company commanded by Capt. Patrick Cleburne of Phillips County. Presumedly they also would have been named after the same Major General James Yell, as he was in command of a Division of Arkansas Militia when the 1st Arkansas State troops was organized by Pat. Cleburne.

You and Bryan, both are respected researchers and historians. Could there be a mistake on the county of origin?
