Damon, well it looks like you're wrapping up your research project, and I'm sure it gives you a great sense of accomplishment (and relief!) to bring it to a close. Personally, however, I kinda hate to see it come to an end. I have thoroughly enjoyed filling in the gaps in my own research with the information you've uncovered, not to mention the interesting discussions your work has generated on this board.

You have done some important work, indeed I would go so far as to say ground-breaking work, in your research. You've clarified the poorly-understood and largely-ignored transition from militia to Confederate volunteer, and thus answered a lot of questions many of us had about it. I'm sure I speak for all the contributors to this board, when I say thanks for your hard work, and thanks for sharing the results of your research so unselfishly.

I hope that whoever is in charge of the "attaboy" awards for historical research takes notice of what you've done, and gives you the recognition you so richly deserve.
