Re: 4th Arkansas Infantry Regiment

The original eight companies which were mustered into service at Miller's Springs, Missouri, on August 17, 1861, were:

Co. A—Calhoun Escopets (Calhoun County)
Co. B—Hempstead Hornets (Hempstead County)
Co. C—Caddo Rifles (Montgomery County)
Co. D—Bright Star Rifles (Lafayette County)
Co. E—Confederate Guards (Hempstead County)
Co. F—Montgomery Hunters (Montgomery County)
Co. G—Pike County Blues (Pike County)
Co. H—Polk County Invincibles (Polk County)

Two additional companies were subsequent added--
Co. I—Polk Rifles (Polk County)
Co. K—Calhoun Invincibles (Calhoun County)

An eleventh company was temporarily attached--
Kelley's Co.—Pike County Rangers (Pike County)

All of these companies arrived shortly after the battle of Wilson's Creek.

The existing 4th Arkansas Regiment (in Pearce's division) was a State Troops regiment, mustered into State service for 90 days. The regiment organized at Miller's Springs was mustered directly into Confederate service for twelve months, and was the fourth regiment to do so, following Fagan's 1st Arkansas, Hindman's 2nd Arkansas, and Rust's 3rd Arkansas.
