A good book is "The Camp, Bivouac and the Battlefield by surgeon Gammage. He was surgeon for the 4th and published the book in 1864 during the war. There was a 4th Ark State Infantry and then a 4th ARk CS Inf. Bryan H. probably can give you more info. I think the 4th State Inf was commanded by Gratiot, aka the 3rd or maybe I have it backwards. But the CS regiment did originate down in SW ARk for the most part. It may have been accepted into CS service at Lawrence Co but I am not sure without looking it up.

I posted to your first post about mustering officers but now it has disappeared. Did you see my remarks?
