Thanks. I did not mean that your ancestor had deserted by no means. Just that there are many confederate records including the 1st Arkansas Mounted rifles that had enlistment records for one year terms. Folks researching their family or looking for military records do not understand many times that AWOL or Deserted terms in the true sense of the words depending on the time and location during the civil war. I can find fellas that were listed as either and found later on prisoner rolls. Its a puzzle sometimes to say the least with so few records available and different spellings with initials and surnames.
