Milton Baber along with Samuel Robinson voted for seccession in both seccession conventions. He called himself and "anti-immediate Seccessionist." his speech when casting his vote was recorded. Colenel Baber must have been a very good speaker.Colonel Baber was a POW having been captured on Price's Raid. His Lt. Col commanded the regiment for the duration of the war. Colonel baber wrote letters on behalf of the enlisted men requesting blankets. Colonel Baber sent the first paid message over the phone line between Smithville and Powhatan. Milton Baber had connections with the Raneys. an old Successful Pioneer family in Lawrence County. The Sloans are also connected to Milton Baber. It is possible that someone in the Sloan family might be aware of his papers.
