I read an article in the 1970's about when the river got low some of the boat could be seen, and an attempt to remove it ended badly. Divers placed cables around the boat and tried to pull it up, but the sill was so deep around it, that when they started to pull it from the mud it tore all to pieces. Like I said the article was from the 1970's but the attempt to clear the channel of the boat may have been many years earlier. Explosives may have been used on it before that to remove the upper parts that may have stuck from the water.
