Re: Accounts of Fighting at Clarendon

Thanks David for a good outline of events and the order of battle. I am more interested in Carr's representations of events, though having the reports of the mentioned units are of importance of course. Sadly, despite all of my research into Shelby and his Brigade through out the war, this is one area of his career that I am only now taking a close look at to fit it all in with his order book. In looking over the place names, Shelby notes to McCray that a large force of approximately 4,000 men has landed near Cotton Plant. This is going to be a subject of another question as soon as I formulate it in my head as well as understand the area of operations. Basically though you are saying that it was Steele that pretty much hindered Carr's operations giving him insufficient force to pin Shelby down. Just thinking off the cuff here, had Carr been giving what he needed, I am thinking that the Price Raid may well have been stalled or halted before it event began. Conjecture on my part until I know more.
