William Jasper Pevehouse, age 29, 2nd Lieutenant, Capt. John F. Winfrey's Company C, Clarkson's Independent Battalion of Cavalry, enlisted May 1, 1862 at Van Buren by J. F. Winfrey for one year, taken prisoner in an affair at Locust Grove/Grand Saline, Cherokee Nations, IT, July 3, 1862, sent to Camp Douglas, Illinois prison camp, sent to Vicksburg, Miss. for exchange September 9, 1862, signs a requisition for camp equipment for 56 men of exchanged prisoners 13 Ark Cav., at Post Monroe, La., /s/ William J. Four companies subsequently served in the 1st Battalion Missouri Cavalry, 1st Indian Brigade. In August, 1862, the remaining five companies were divided into eight companies and in November, 1862, were dismounted and consolidated into four companies assigned to Clark's Regiment Missouri Infantry
