The 6th Arkansas Regiment served east of the Mississippi River, and was not engaged at Helena. However, the 39th (Hawthorn's) Arkansas Regiment was for a time designated as the 6th Trans-Mississippi Rifle Regiment, so the soldiers naturally referred to it as the 6th "Arkansas" Regiment. Hawthorn's regiment was heavily engaged at Helena.
