McRae's, Glenn's and Davie's regiment are one and the same. The regiment was organized as McRae's 28th Arkansas Infantry about June 20, 1862. When McRae was promoted to brigadier-general on November 5, 1862, Lieutenant-Colonel John Edward Glenn succeeded him as colonel. When Colonel Glenn resigned on September 4, 1863, Major James Madison Davie succeeded him as colonel. The regiment's designation was changed from the 28th Arkansas to the 36th Arkansas during the reorganization of the army following the battle of Prairie Grove.

The last muster rolls for Cos. F and I places them at Camp Bowen, Arkansas, on August 31, 1863. By the time of the last known regimental muster at Camp Sumter, Arkansas, on February 29, 1864, the two companies had ceased to exist.

Hd. Quarters Davie’s Regt.,
Camp Sumter, 13th March 1864.

Capt. Johnson, A.A.G.

Sir—In my monthly returns I have accounted for Co’s. I & F, and no muster roll has been sent up for some months back of those Co’s. Soon after the retreat from Little Rock those companies deserted (officers & all) with but two or three exceptions, who concluded to join other companies & when the last rolls of those companies were forwarded, remarks were made showing them to be extinct.

Respectfully,
JAS. M. DAVIE,
Col. Comdg.
