I have some papers on him when he and the 3rd Arkansas Cavalry US were at Lewisburg, Ar. He was said to have deserted at a skirmish Sept. 8, 1864 near Glass Village, which was about thirty miles northwest of Lewisburg. He was charged as missing with a Starr carbine and Remington pistol. His family lived at Flag, Arkansas. I guess David must have deserted both armies and went and checked on his family. I wonder if the Union army ever officially charged him as a deserter.
Sanford V. Castleberry was a blacksmith in the confederate army, and I think he was a bugler in the 3rd Arkansas Cavalry US. He was also from Flag, Arkansas.
