Yes he was probably there BUT evidently may have lost his horse as he fought inthe Battle of Jenkin's Ferry as well. All of this comes from descendants of his that I know. I want to think he might have been wounded at JF but can't remember for sure. He enrolled as James W. Wallace, the last name of his stepfather and not as Peeler. Don't know why that was but nevertheless he was there.
He did receive a pension for his service. I know a few of his direct descenants and they said that he took his stepdads last name when he enlisted, but as you can see from the 1860 census as well as his pension records, he was listed as Peeler. Perhaps he went in the place of his stepfather who would have been about 35 years old when he enlisted in Miller's Company before Crawford's regiment organized in Dec 63. SInce the enlistment was in March of 63 that meant he participated in the battle of Helena in July. Miller's Company was the personal escort for General Fagan. At Helena they were assigned to assist and were the advance group on Battery D until they met up with the felled trees.
