Re: Shelbys Operations between Little Rock and Duv

I am reposting from an email that Alan Thompson sent me. He has been digging in CSRs and other palces trying help me figure out the composition of Shelbys forces, and secifically McCray's Brigade during the Action at Ashley's Station.

There is a service record for a guy named Samuel W. Allen in Company H of the 47th. He was captured in Prairie County on August 7...another card says he was captured by General West's Expedition. From Aug 7-14 Gen. West took an expedition from Little Rock to Little Red River. P.223 of vol. 41 has a report that says the Feds captured 7 prisons at Hickory Plains on the 7th and that the force was commanded by McCray. So by these two little pieces it appears that the 47th was part of McCray's Brigade as of Aug. 7...still doesn't prove they were present on the 24th though. Will keep digging.
