For my 2xggreatgrandfather, I have his CSA civil war pensions packet & his widow's pension application and did a lot of research on him using "Clarkson's Battalion C.S.A. : a brief history and roster" by
David L Haimerl. My 99- year old aunt told me her grandfather was also taken prisoner and went to a Union prison camp but was released. My SAMUEL WILBURN enlisted 01 Feb 1862 in Ozark, Franklin, AR. His name is on the roster for COMPANY I 34TH Infantry Regiment. His company later became Clarkson's Battalion 1st Organization Company A (Franklin, Arkansas). He is then listed in Clarkson soldiers in Regiment under Lt. Col. Michael Buster Co E. Then, chronologically, he is in Clarkson's Battalion roster 2nd organization Co A Franklin County. This is all documented and all my sources match. I find only one SAMUEL WILBURN (ALSO WRITTEN AS SAML WILBURN) as a prisoner of war. I have 7 documents and all list the same dates & Regiments and Company. He was sent to Rock Island Prison but was released on a prisoner exchange. So here is my question--they all list him from Thompson's Regiment Co C. How can I prove he is mine? I have seen Clarkson's Battalion and Thompson's Regiment in some of the same writings but I don't understand if they were actually in a battle area and he was rounded up with soldiers from Thompson's so that is how it is recorded. Thank you for any help to complete this story. Yvonne
