IMAGES OF ARK. STATE TROOP UNIFORMS...

Hi Alan -

can think of two images offhand that might help you:

(1) the painting by Andy Thomas (Maze Creek Studio, Carthage MO) showing Gen. Sterling Price leading Gratiot's 3rd Ark. State Troops towards Bloody Hill at Wilson's Creek.

(2) the photographic image of Co. H, 3rd Ark. State Troops (Hempstead Rifles I think?) shown in several places. I think the original is in Dr. Tom Sweeny's collection/museum in Republic, MO (just outside Wilsons Creek NMP).

The Ark. State Troops by and large did not seem to have standard uniforms, but rather modified "battle shirts" with big pockets for cartridges, caps, etc.

Hope this helps you some....I had two gg-uncles in Gratiot's 3rd Ark. State Troops (see URL below)
