LOL! I'm one of them. Cane Hill is an old favorite place. If we are talking about the same camp, it is pretty well cleaned out - But I would guess that there were near a thousand Merrill bullets dropped on one hillside alone. Only found a few pinfires there

Find a 2nd Kansas Cav camp though - THEY dropped pinfires. :-)

As far as the script CSA revolvers - I have seen several myself. There are reports of a Western Arms Importer in the 1950's applying the CSA to guns to try to enhance their salability. Making them 7.50 dollar guns rather than $2.50. Sheesh This is not the only answer - but I have seen some real crisp "CSA"'s on pretty worn guns.

What is sad is that the obvious fakes have served to cast doubt on ALL marked "CS" revolvers. Usually, they get dismissed out of hand at the shows - but, there may be some real diamonds out there if you have sound provinance for them - like the one you talked about before.

Heck - I have a great example of a Confederate gun that is a "no doubt" Reb item. However, it was in pretty sad shape and somebody figured to "help" it with a big "CS" on the lockplate. Ironic that it really WAS a Reb gun - and I will spend the rest of my life explaining the correct gun - and the spurious mark on it.

Take care - Gene
