"Well, if it is an original 1860 army, the backstrap should be all steel with the serial # stamped on the bottom where the screw attach's to the brass triggerguard,the triggerguard should be brass & serial #'d, & in front of the T.G. #, should be the # on the frame & also a number on the barrel where it attach's to the frame."
I once owned an original Colt 1860 Army. Only the wedge had been replaced. I don't remember the numbers, but they did match. However, the backstrap was also brass, not steel. I know some 1851 Navy Colts had steel backstraps, but did not know any of the Armys did. Unfortunately, some so and so stole it from me during a move after I got out of the Navy. I had traded for it in Jacksonville, Florida, for an 1895 Marlin lever action, .22 caliber. Stan
