Thanks again everyone, I have learned a lot. Basically I have learned it could have been there or he might have taken it to the hospital with him. In the end either is perfectly valid options, although I have a hard time imagining the a company commander having a weapon with an invalid soldier during battle. The soldiers name was Charles Smith, from the 61st North Carolina
