Top of page 258 in William Edwards (1962) Civil War Arms features a photo taken of the SUHL German Springfield with the barrel and bands dismounted so to show their markings, as well as the lock area of the musket illustrating its great similiarity in pattern to the U.S. Model 1861 Springfield. The musket is noted as No. 22 and belonged to Charles Wynkoop of Tulsa, Oklahoma. It notes that modern-day researchers are stymied by Iron Curtain and document losses of many wars, so the subject seems like it is wide open to speculation. Two other photos are provided on page 257, both an overall view of the musket and a close-up on the lock (No. 8 is part of the USMA Collection at West Point).
