Those figures do take a lot of believing, but don't forget the gaps between wagons. I suppose that there could be quite large gaps in the column and this could cut the number of wagons, perhaps even by half. I also seem to remember reading that Jeb Stuart bought back over 200 wagons when he rejoined the confederate army during Gettysburg.
