Here is a short list of blockade runners that ran out of Charleston. I believe this was in the time period that only ships flying the palmetto flag could enter the harbor.
Note the Steamer Nassau, its Captain was Maffit before he was Captain of the Florida. Maffit’s father the Rev. John Newland Maffit died in the City of Mobile in 1850 so this might be why Captain Maffit also ran out of Mobile Bay, a visit home every so often.
