It was fairly common for battle honours not to be applied to a flag after it was issued. The honours on the 51st OVVI flag were those that dated from before the flag was presented to the regiment. I would not doubt that if the regiment would have obtained a new flag at the end of the war it would have included a "Nashville" honour.
