The ID of the ANV Second Bunting may not be correct (with the Seven Pines battle honor), and if so, then the flag of the 14th VA may not have been captured. As stated here already, it is not marked by the unit ID. The Richard Rollins book has charts documenting the flag captures of Gettysburg. For the 19th Massachusetts we have:

19th VA, unidentified flag, 14th VA, 57th VA, are the only four he has listed.

The Second Bunting was IDd in 1966 as the 53rd Virginia's which cannot be right as their Third Bunting marked with the unit designation was captured on July 3rd, 1863. By 1977, the ID for the flag had been altered to the 26th Alabama, who did not participate in Pickett's Charge. The first time the flag came up for sale was in 1917 in a Bannerman catalog.

The flag's ID may still be suspect, however. In the library of the Museum of the Confederacy is a statement from Philo Alcott, member of the 14th VA color guard that day. This is from his citation for the Confederate Roll of Honour; the statement says, "One by one the color guard were shot down until Philo Alcott was the only color guard left. He seized the flag and cheered his regiment to rush on. later looking around he saw his company retreating and a Yankee regiment between himself and his company. He rolled the flag up and at the first opportunity rejoined his regiment."

Thus, from this, it sounds like he saved the flag from capture.
