I have to concur with Phil Oliver's comments about the reliability of the cover image on Pfanz's book.

The only unit to carry a Confederate 2nd National flag at Gettysburg was the 32nd NC. In his book "The Damned Red Flags of the Rebellion" Richard Rollins argues that this flag was a hurriedly modified 3rd Bunting battleflag. The original battleflag was used to form the canton of the 2nd National colour.
