Thanks for the info George, but that's not my G G F. He was George Washington Ball and originally was a member of Capt A. R. Godwin's Campbelton Cavalry and fought in the battle of Marianna. He was between 16 and 18 years old and after Marianna he was " transferred" to Co I 5th Fl Cavalry. I have a copy of a U. D. C. Southern Cross of Honor Certificate he was awarded in 1910 showing him as a member of the 5th.
I can't find anything much after the battle of Marianna as far as his service.
