Re: Dec 1864 Waynesboro Battle
In Response To: Re: Dec 1864 Waynesboro Battle ()

I was born and raised about twenty five miles from there, but this is the part of The War I know the least about. I know there was something of a battle right in Waynesboro, a town on the Central Rail Road and Sherman's March, there was also a pretty good battle near a country church a few miles south of Waynesboro. In fact, I went to a re-enactment there a few years ago. As far as I know, the only PACS infantry in Georgia at that time was a couple of brigades under Mj. Gen. A. R. Wright. Wheeler had some cavalry that harrassed Sherman. The only real infantry opposition that Sherman faces were young boys, old men, and the shirkers and politicos that had stayed behind. So, to answer the question before I say something that would anger the Southern ruling class of today; any unit there would have either been Wheeler's Cavalry, Georgia Militia, or PACS Reserves.
