While not anything to do with "first hand accounts" but within the vein of Sherman's March-the movie "Raintree County" from 1957 has a good amount of time devoted to the Civil War in Georgia and Sherman. The movie is long, almost 3 hours and basically is a love story, with a very beautiful Elizabeth Taylor as a Southern girl married to a Yankee (Montgomery Clift). Taylor, Clift, and Eva Marie Saint were main players-But-for me a still youngish appearing Lee Marvin (Marine WW11 Veteran) is perhaps my favorite character-he is presented prior to war, and as the war proceeds, becomes a Yankee soldier and goes to Georgia. Apparently this movie was filmed in Kentucky and may not be one of those Southern/Eastern settings filmed in the dry Southwest
