To understand more about your ancestor's experiences during the war, I'd suggest that you locate a copy of Mr. White's book and read it carefully. Obviously John R. Scott stuck with his regiment, following 'Marse Robert' up to his surrender at Appomattox Courthouse. Not many could truthfully say as much.

There may be a little more about him in his service file. Also, either Scott or his widow may have filed for a pension after the war. Please reply if you're interested in either one.
