Mr. McCluskey,

The brigade would not become Alfred Cumming's Brigade until two or three days before the battle of Baker's Creek(battle May 16, 1863). He assumed command while in the field from Brigadier General Thomas H. Taylor who was assigned as the Provost Marshal of Vicksburg.
