Therefore, I guess he was not with Cummings' Brigade at Champion Hill and then Vicksburg. I know the 34th had some companies not with them at Champions Hill but others in Henry's company were among the parolees in Vicksburg.
Do I assume he may have been sick and then unable to rejoin his company when the siege happened?
He rejoins them when they reform in Georgia and is with them at Chattanooga and then down to Kenesaw where I believe he received mortal wounds as he is listed as dying in Forsyth Hospital July 15, 1864 from wounds received in battle. The surgeon's report said "Vol Sclopet" or Volnus Sclopeticum, gunshot wounds.
I haven't found any records of his widow, Annie Lindsey Jones, applying for a widows pension. She took her remaining children (including my great-grandfather William Henry Jones) back near familiy in Union County, SC.
Any information about Henry or his unit would be greatly appreciated.
I do know he is buried in the Confederate Cemetery in Forsyth, Georgia.
Thanks,
Scott Jones
