Re: Lt. Henry L. Jones, 34th Georgia, Co. D

Scott,

I looked at his Compiled Service Records and thought I would pass on a couple of notes of interest.

I saw the pension inquiry slip on Henry Jones. These were put into the records when someone inquired for information for the purpose of obtaining a pension. That one was made from the Georgia Commissioner of Pensions.

Lieutenant Jones also went to Richmond, Virginia to escort prisoners. There is a pay statement that noted he was detailed to escort prisoners from Jackson, Mississippi. He signed for his pay on July 23, 1863.

Thanks for tracking this down for me. I'll send an email. The gentleman at the NA referenced someone making an application but I've never found one. The family never passed down any information. My great-grandfather was only 4 when his father died. The older siblings weren't much older. I doubt anyone ever knew. They lived above Rome where there were additional raids after Atlanta so I think they probably left not long after Henry passed through or they got word I guess.
Thank you again for your help. I've been able to compile a fair amount after I determined where he was. Jones is a fairly hard name to trace if you have no historical background to begin with.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Respectfully,
