L. M Davis, a grocer in Rock Hill, South Carolina;
J. H. Hudson, attorney and cousellor, Bennettsville, South Carolina;
I. G. DuPre, M.D., Mount Pleasant, South Carolina;
B. L. Brady, Georgetown, South Carolina;
Stephen D. Lee, General Commanding, United Confederate Veterans, Columbus, Mississippi;
James A. Lewis, Horry County Auditor, Conway, South Carolina.
These are great letters. I am fortunate that a cousin shared them with me and allowed me to make copies. I love the way they "talk" of those times. For example: "Always glad to hear from a member of The Grandest Army Ever Existing on this Earth." and sadly, "I often think of our dear old 25th and remember with much satisfaction how cheerfully they endured extreme privation and suffering and the good name they made for themselves in many hard fought battles. The sad part of the struggle in recalling those days is the fact of our great loss of life, the sacrifice of the many valuable lives, indeed the flower of the Southern Country, all for naught. Our cause a deplorable failure lost forever."
If anyone can give me a direction to pursue, it would be greatly appreciated.
