I have been looking for the “Judge Stidham” of Texas that you referenced. Who was this Judge Stidham of Texas?

In my 146-page Name Index, I have 10 men named Stidham, Stedman, Steedman, Stidman. Candidates may be the Judge S. D. Steedman of Grayson Co TX or maybe the Captain George E. Stidman of Lamar Co TX. The 34 North Texas counties are listed on my web page:

I found one George Stidman in the 1860 Smith Co TX cen, I think. (I have not been able to read the censuses again since the server is down.)

During the Civil War, some of the Creek Indians of Indian Territory visited Rebecca McIntosh in Cass, Marion, and Harrison Counties of North Texas, and yes other Creeks lived in the area. See my web page.

CPT John Garrett took leave and with the COL's slaves from the IT, went to Centre, AL and took Lizzie to the CSA Creek across the Red River in Texas where Judge Stidham and his wife were at the time. Apparently, this was on the land that BG Pike had obtained for the refugee Creek, Cherokee, and Choctaws. CPT's Stidham and Garrett returned to the war and Lizzie was raised by Lizzie Stidham in Texas until the end of war.
