I am almost too intimidated to post this...but, curiosity will fan the flames. My line of Garrett's has been very hard to research, although it has very deep roots in Cherokee County, Alabama. My own family resided in Centre for a number of years, and I, in fact am a graduate of Cherokee County High School. (Won't mention how many centuries ago..ha ha.) I have always been told by the Garrett family, the very line you have so brillantly documented, that my family is indeed related closely to theirs. The only true facts that I have on my line are as follows: John Garrett born 1835 in Ga. They were located in Etowah County in 1870 and 1880. He was married to Jincy "Jane" White of Ga. born in 1844. They have been almost impossible to trace, only showing up in these 2 census records. They disappear from here, have absolutely no trace of death or burials from here. Most of their children lived in Cherokee County, and several are buried there in the Lawrence-Demaris cemetery. After almost 10 years of research, I know no more than I did a few years ago. I have found several cousins, who have also hit the wall exactly where I have. It may be a long shot, but I am willing to try all resources to further my search. My Dad was good friends with sheriff Mack Garrett back in the 70's, and they often discussed family connections. Dad passed away in '99, but never was able to explain our connection. I am told that Jicy White was part Cherokee, and is listed in 1850 in Big Shanty, Coob County, Ga. A very critical area of Civil War action, her family was relocated by 1860 to Calhoun County, Al. Seems to be an area where some of the Cherokee people intermarried with early settlers. Ironic sidebar, John Garrett is listed as a lumber man on the census. I have been in the building supply business since 1976. Hope I don't sound too dense...admire all your hard work. Thanks so much!
