Here is the brief migration story on my Garretts - VA to SC to MS Territory/AL to Indian Territory (Back to AL with my gggrandmother being born enroute or in AL during WBS 1862/3 and her parents dying in Richmond) back to IT to East Texas along Red River back to IT/Creek Nation/Okla. Terr./Oklahoma.

It can get very confusing on tracing the Garretts in Alabama because there are at least two prominent lines. My line of the Garretts that came in along the East Coast through the South and into Southern Alabama includes COL William Hammond Garrett (a JP in Centre, Cherokee County, AL, State Rep & State Senator, then US Indian Agent to Creeks and then CSA Agent to the Creeks). COL WH Garrett was named for his father's (John Hammond Garrett's) good friend, William H. Garrett, Alabama Secretary of State, a COL in the Creek War, and having a migration path from VA & SC to PA to TENN and down to Coosa County, AL. Sec of State/COL Garrett also served on the Staff of Pres. A. Jackson at the Battle of New Orleans. He is also the author of the starting point for Alabama biographical research: Reminiscences of Public Men in Alabama (1872).
