Jobe Fisher, ? in Bourland's Regt ?

David McNally,

re: Jobe Fisher, b-1825 AR: ..I found the following quote fascinating, and yes, I immediately thought that your "Jobe Fisher" should be added to my listing on my following web page. ..Initially, I thought I'd find 50 men who served in Bourland's Regt that were not mentioned in the Confederate archival records and thus far, I have found 32.

.
Quoting: .."2 Apr 1863, Jobe enlisted with the Minute Men, 21st brigade then was mustered into the Confederate Army and placed under command of Colonel James Bourland."
.
After signing up Apr 2, 1863 in **Roff's Texas State Troops, Jobe Fisher resigned on Apr 8, 1863. ..I'd guess that Bourland asked him to patrol a different sector of the North and West Frontier than Roff's men patrolled. ..Most of these soldiers patrolled in lonely six-week stints which was considered yeoman's work because it meant sleeping on the plains and eating what they could find. ..I must quickly add that many, if not most, of the men in Bourland's Regt. were over age 35, i.e., not stapping 21-30-year-old men because the able-bodied men were fighting for the Southern cause back east.
.
QUESTION. ..With hesitation, I have to ask: ..Were these records you are quoting from "old family records" or from archival records? or from my book?
.
About two-thirds of the soldiers' family records show Bourland's name misspelled, but your Jobe Fisher lived in Cooke County where Bourland was well known plus he voted in a heated election for the 21st Brigade General in which Bourland's son, Wm. Wells Bourland lost to Wm. Hudson.

**Roff, now Pontotoc County OK, was founded by the son of Captain Charles L. Roff, who lived about a mile from Col. Bourland.
