Your area is correct in that the house was west of the creek in the horseshoe (west of Delaware and north of 86th st). There are some natural ravines that are WSW of the house location that hold water and may be the swamp or the ambuscade that was mentioned. Also, the swamp may have been south of the horseshoe near the feeders for Delaware creek, but the topography has changed since a pecan orchard was put in that area. Recent land fill has raised all the area inside the horseshoe. Further south, about 61st, there are low areas just west of Harvard avenue, but that may be too far south. Due south of the battle, between 66th and 76th, the area had the topography elevated by Doc Sisler in the 1950's so that may be a better option as it was a low area and was prone to flooding before the elevation change.

Just some possibilities from an old resident of that area.
