Re: Camp Dorn, C.N.; Feb 1865 and Dec 1861

Have had to finally go to Footnote to search records. Was working on 6th Texas.

Whitfield's Company was recruited in Lavaca County which had a population of less than 500. Was Co. D 4th Bn became D/27
E. R. Hawkin's Company came from Hunt and Titus Counties. Was Co. A 4th Bn became A/27
John R. Broocks Company came from St Augustine County. Was Co. C 4th Bn became C/27
B. H. Norsworthy's Company came from Jasper. Was Co. E 4th Bn. became E/27

Capt Murphy's Arkansas Company. Was Co B 4th Bn became Co. H, 1st AK Cavalry Regiment in May 1862.

During the reorganization in May men were transferred from company to company to provide more experience to the new companies. I have just copied this data on line and will check rosters to see how it worked.
Some of the four companies were short men at muster. Seems the short distance to home caused some to feel free in going home. Most of one company was in Texas for Christmas. So some men were actually mustered in Texas after the original muster. In January '62 a good many were home.

I am now trying to figure out who became Company B after the Arkansas company was transferred. This is not on the pages I have looked at.
