The Indian Territory in the Civil War Message Board

Re: account of 2nd Colorado Vols at Honey Springs

Hi Mike. I was really excited when I found these. I have been searching for info on the 2nd Colorado Vols -- infantry and later cavalry -- in the Indian Territory for quite some time. Though they don't always provide much detail, they are infinitely more than "nothing"! It is unfortunate that the issue of the Colorado Transcript, that would cover the pursuit of Price to the Arkansas and their subsequent march to Kansas, appears to be lost. However, I believe in the ORs there is a good account of their trek to the Arkansas, where the 1st Colorado Battery fires a farewell shot at the retreating Confederates, and then they march via Ft Gibson and Timbered Hill back to Kansas.
