Another book having to do with the Creek Indians in the Civil War is "Now a Wolf Has Come; The Creek Nation in the Civil War" by Christine Schultz White and Benton R. White, 1996, Texas A&M Press.

It has been a long time since I read this. If I recall correctly, it was primarily about divisions within the Creek Nation during the early days of the Civil War. It also covered the winter 1861-62 campaign in which the Confederate Indians, led by the McIntosh brothers, along with Texans and Arkansans chased the Union Creek Indians under Opothleyahola out of Indian Territory and into Kansas.

The writing style seemed more like a good story telling than a historical narrative. This may not appeal to some who prefer a more academic style of writing. There was a lot of color and subjectivity in the book but maybe not the amount of specificity and precision I would have liked. Having said all the above, it was very readable. This is just my opinion from what I recall. The citation in the book includes endnotes and a bibliography for further research.

Merry Christmas
