Thanks for your reply and suggestion about records during the time of his imprisonment. I made a timeline to sort of help me process the information and came up with one thing, but it does not really answer the question one way or the other. On one of his records it shows that he was last paid by Major Viley for a period through 1 August 1862. However, the record that is on is dated 12 Jun 1863 and is for the period of 1 August 1862 through 31 October 1862. So, my assumption is it was just back pay he was given after he was exchanged, but I don't really know. There are no other unit rolls that he appears on for the period he was a prisoner of war.
