I think the California camels were sold in 1863, while the Texas camels were sold in 1865 after hostilities had ceased.

Still don't have any concrete info on where "Old Douglas" came from. Just have the one source that says his owner was a former Lt. in the Camel Corps. This is unsubstantiated at this time.

I'm going to look into the 1860 MS Agricultural Survey for Lowndes County to see if the camel was with it's owner in 1860, but don't know if the survey would even show an oddity like a camel, 'cause the survey simply had columns for no. of sheep, bales of cotton, etc.
