Louisiana 26th Infantry

In researching a gggrandfather Steve Edwards I have been told by family that he enlisted into the military on May 1, 1862 at Camp Moore in New Orleans. He was a private in Company G - 26th Infantry. He fought at the battle of Vicksburg, surrendered in New Orleans in 1865 and was paroled on June 20, 1865. His son Mitchell Edwards served in the 26th Infantry also.

Does any of this sound familiar? As I read through the messages I am not finding anyone referencing the 26th?
