Is it possible that your "Stephen Edwards" was actually the uncle of "Mitchell Edwards Jr."? It appears to be a possibility that the "Mitchell Edwards Sr." was his father.

I found no pension application for Stephen Edwards or Mitchell Edwards Jr. in the Louisiana or Texas Confederate Pension Databases.
